Did quite a bit of household shopping this past week. No bulky furniture bought yet (still sleeping on the floor, the glamour!), but picked up a few items of furnishings which I really love. Bought the above ceramic "crumpled plastic" cups from The Conran shop at Marylebone. Designed by Robert Brandt, the cups highlight the wastage of paper and plastic cups around. Quite an oxymoron move, but I really like it. I think it's fun but not to the point of being tacky.
Not decided on any book shelves or coffee table yet, but I bought a few old but well loved Penguin books from Spitalfields Market. Some of these were first editions, and price range from £0.50 to £3.50 each. They look great by the window sill, I might leave them as it is.
Looking forward to read "Catcher In The Rye" at some point...
Having moved in for about a month now, I've only just gone and bought a measuring tape. I got a lot of grief from my boss when the Smythson measuring tape got delivered to the office. He said I could have got one for £5 down the hardware shop. But this one is small and mighty and lightweight and I could bring it everywhere with me. You never know when you might need to measure something.
Absolute vanity buy, but totally justified.
Treated myself to a new umbrella too. Very inspired by the animal headed umbrellas from Burberry Prorsum Fall Winter 2012, but I wanted something more classic. Got the above thinly folded umbrella with a bamboo handle from James Smith & Sons on New Oxford Street. I think it looks really stylish hanging there until I find another use for the wall hooks.
And totally practical considering it rains 95% of the time in London. And a little Gucci don't you think?

Quite an impulsive buy, but I think this will work in my flat. Bought this Maison Martin Margiela bottle lamp from the Bruton Street store. It looked so simple but yet clever in a classic Margiela way. I love Margiela homewares, not a lot of places stock them and I don't think they produce many pieces to start with. You know, anything to justify my purchase.
I can't test it yet, as it doesn't come with a bulb! Come on Margiela, what a kill joy. And they better not do one with the upcoming Margiela x H&M collaboration...
Close up of the Margiela bottle lamp. Not sure where to put it yet, but I'm sure it will fit somewhere.
I love the graphite clinical bottles from Aesop which would look really good around the flat. Even better that their products work a treat too. Got myself a bottle of the Aesop Resurrection hand wash for the bathroom. A little treat, should I hide it when my friends come round?
Finally, really loving this brass water jug from Zara Home. It has this wonderful tarnished gold/silver effect. I had my eye on it for ages, and finally it went on sale this week. I actually travelled to quite a few stores but managed to track one down in the end. It's a poor man's Georg Jensen and a little shabby chic but I totally love.
Quite an improvement from last week. Looking forward to my bulky furniture buy next week.
